Eanna and team from Trinity College Dublin have been investigating functional threshold power once more.
Their paper, published in the International Journal of Exercise Science, found that, if you have done a graded exercise test and would like to know how to calculate your FTP, complete the following steps:
Multiply the power you completed on the final stage by 0.46
Multiply the power you were at when lactate reached 4 mmol/L by 0.32
Multiply your weight in KG by 0.42
Add the three numbers up
Subtract 7
This is your FTP.
Simple ! :)
